Stone veneer in Greater Vancouver & the Fraser Valley

Manufactured and thin natural stone veneer installed with code-required drainage so accent walls last in our wet climate.

Stone veneer by Awesense Exterior — example of our work

Stone veneer brings the mass and texture of natural stone to a wall at a fraction of the weight and cost, which makes it a popular accent on West Coast homes — wainscots, columns, chimneys, and full feature walls. Both manufactured and thin natural stone options are available, sized to install without the structural footing real masonry would demand.

On the coast, water management makes or breaks a stone wall, because the face hides any moisture trapped behind it until the framing has already rotted. We install adhered veneer over a proper drainage plane, with the code-required weep screed, two layers of moisture barrier, and flashed transitions so any water that gets behind the stone drains out at the base instead of rotting the framing. Skipping these details is the single most common cause of the stone-veneer failures we’re called in to repair.

We integrate stone veneer with siding, soffit, and trim so the accent reads as part of the whole exterior, and we handle both new installs and repairs to existing veneer that was originally put up without proper drainage.

Frequently asked

Stone veneer — your questions

Why do some stone-veneer walls leak or fail?

Almost always because they were installed without proper drainage - no weep screed, a weak moisture barrier, or unflashed transitions. We build the drainage details in so water escapes instead of rotting the framing.

Can stone veneer go on any wall?

Adhered veneer is light enough for most framed walls without a new footing, but the wall needs the right backing and moisture barrier first. We assess the substrate before any stone goes up.
