Brick veneer in Greater Vancouver & the Fraser Valley

Brick veneer walls installed with the cavity, weep holes, and ties needed to drain coastal rain and last for decades.

Brick veneer by Awesense Exterior — example of our work

Brick veneer brings a sense of permanence and quality that few claddings match, and it ages gracefully on everything from traditional homes to contemporary builds across the Lower Mainland. A single wythe of brick anchored to the structure behind it gives you that solid masonry character without the cost of a full structural wall.

What makes brick work in our climate is everything you cannot see. Brick absorbs wind-driven rain, so the veneer is built over an open air cavity that lets water run down the back face to flashing and weep holes at the base, where it drains out. Corrosion-resistant ties hold the brick to the wall while still allowing that gap to do its job. Block the cavity or skip the weeps and the moisture has nowhere to go.

We install brick and thin-brick veneer with the through-wall flashing, drainage cavity, and weep details that our heavy coastal rain demands, and we handle careful transitions where brick meets windows, other cladding, and grade. At elevation we also detail for freeze-thaw so saturated brick is not damaged when temperatures drop.

Frequently asked

Brick veneer — your questions

Doesn't brick keep water out on its own?

No, and that surprises people. Brick is porous and absorbs rain, so a veneer wall depends on the air cavity behind it, weep holes at the base, and flashing to drain that moisture back out. The brick is a screen, not a seal.

What is the white chalky staining I sometimes see on brick?

That is efflorescence, mineral salts carried to the surface as the wall dries. It is common in our wet climate, usually cosmetic, and a sign of how much moisture moves through a brick wall, which is why drainage details matter.
